Objectives
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the principles underlying the ISO and TCP/IP layered communication models.
- For each layer of both the IS/OSI and TCP/IP model, describe its function, major protocols, and standards governing that layer.
- List and explain major communication standards organizations including the IEEE, Internet Society, IETF and IANA.
- List and define IT infrastructure components, including clients, servers, wired and wireless communication devices, related software, and specialized security devices.
- Describe the operation of major Internet services including DNS, HTTP, and SMTP.
- Demonstrate protocol analysis as a method for network troubleshooting, and problem solving.
- List and explain evolving technologies impacting business data communications including virtualization and cloud computing.
- Compare and contrast wired and wireless networking.
- List, and where appropriate, demonstrate simple network management and monitoring concepts.
- Analyze and troubleshoot lower level protocols including ARP and DHCP.
- Demonstrate troubleshooting with basic TCP/IP utilities.
